26 April 2011

It's late in the evening. But the Nerd doesn't care at all.

Good evening, my beloved readers! It's kind of late, and if I have any readers on Eastern Standard Time (probably not...), it's already Wednesday. But right here, it's very late on this lovely Tuesday night. And, being bored and not having school tomorrow (Juniors have to take their ACTs...ha ha), I thought I might share a short and concise little post with you for Tuesday.

In Biology, we're anxiously preparing for our IB examinations by taking review quizzes. Today's was on Human Physiology, and I did pretty well. Not a bad class at all. In Acting, we were assigned our final exam: Writing and performing a monologue written by us putting our past experiences in the monologue. My current idea involves setting moments of my life to lyrics from Bob Dylan's "The Times, They Are A-Changin'", a personal favorite song of mine with a great deal of emotional input in it. In my off-block, I went to Atlanta Bread and had a bread bowl full of tomato soup...yum. And in Math, we're also getting ready for IB exams by doing actual IB exams from the past years.

After school, I went to a rehearsal for my latest theatrical endeavor: Lakewood High School's annual series of One Acts, which are quite literally one act plays that are student directed and operated. The One Act I'm involved in is entitled Dinner With the MacGuffins, and is basically a giant nod to Alfred Hitchcock involving the 4th Wall vanishing from one character's perspective. It's a great deal of fun looking at that character and treating him like he's a psycho.

ROMANCE PARAGRAPH. Blah blah blah.

Not a whole lot to report. I'm still dementedly happy. She's fantastic and awesome and beautiful and happy. And that's all that matters. (God, this is a short romance paragraph...)

And now we reach the daily ritual! And it's...

COOL PICTURE TUESDAY! (the cake is a lie...)

So, Portal 2 is still consuming my life. But God, that game is fantastic. Seriously. If you even remotely liked the first one, you're gonna be floored by how expansive the sequel is, and you're going to love all of the new, awesome things you get to play around with in the game. Today's picture is obviously related to Portal, in case you could not tell. And I think it's amusing. And a very nice usage of Photoshop.

Truer words were never spoken. With that, I bid you all farewell for now, for I've experiments to run, there is research to be done on the people who are...still alive. Peace out.

This concludes the posting of the Mindless Ramblings of the Nerd for 26 April 2011. I hope to see you later this week for another exciting installment!

25 April 2011

And so the Nerd begins again.

Hello, my beloved readers who haven't forgotten I exist! 'Tis I, your humble narrator, and allow me to firstly apologize. It has been 2 months and 14 days since I've done an actual post on this blog. That's nonsensical. BUT! I have a valid-ish excuse! I've been trapped on a deserted island for the duration of my prolonged absence!

...But not really.

SO, allow me to put you up to speed on the important things which have happened while I've been away.

Firstly, you might recall I was in a musical theater production...which has since ended. But ask anyone about Lakewood High School's production of Chicago and they'll tell you it was awesome! And it was! I had a great deal of fun working with a lot of talented people and bringing together one hell of a show. So yes. That's cool.

I got accepted into college! Which is sweet! So, come September, I'm shipping off for Suffolk University in the heart of Boston, Massachusetts to pursue my degree in Cinema Studies! Huzzah.

My collection of films has gone viral! In short, you can find trailers for upcoming projects of mine and various short films on my new YouTube channel, ClaytonNickellFilms.

Crazy, nerdy events which have happened...let's see. I went to Denver's local science fiction convention, StarFest, and met Peter Mayhew (aka CHEWBACCA!), a bunch of fellow cosplayers of the Doctor, and someone else who I'll get to in a minute. I met one of my nerdy heroes, a cappella god Mister Tim (mistertimdotcom.com) at a concert he did with LHS' own a cappella ensemble Eclipse, who are also awesome. Doctor Who Series VI premiered, which was brilliant. I had a party with a bunch of fellow Whovians, and it was a great deal of fun. But the ending of the episode was BULLSHIT! SO UNSATISFYING! DAMN YOU, MOFFAT! (But deep down, I love you.)

And, now, something I'm sure you all have missed...the usual recount of my failure of a love life...or is it?

WARNING: ROMANCE PARAGRAPH AHEAD. AND FOR ONCE, THERE'S GOOD NEWS!

I HAVE A GIRLFRIEND! That's right, readers who doubted my romantic skills...SUCK IT! But, let's get to some details. We met at StarFest, and she truly is something else. In a good way. I quite literally never thought a human being like her could exist...pretty, nerdy, intelligent, compassionate, kind, and generally amazing. After three dates, I knew for sure that she was the one I wanted, so...it's official, planet Earth. The Nerd has found a nerd...ess? Nerdette? Nerdmate? Whatever...girlfriend who is nerdy. There.

So, as per the ancient, forgotten rituals of daily events, today is...well...

(refers to previous posts, which have been collecting dust)

COOL YOUTUBE VIDEO MONDAY (it's about damn time!)

Now, call me an egotist all you want, but today's first cool YouTube video is one of my own creation, fresh from my new YouTube channel. I made it for a contest sponsored by Hyundai and YouTube in the hopes of winning a shiny new car and a trip to Korea (As if I haven't been already there...no really. I have.), but we had a lot of fun along the way. So, here it is..."The Duel".

Our second video is for those who didn't know who Mister Tim was when I referenced him earlier in the post. Behold his insane skill and immense nerdery as he and his a cappella quartet Moosebutter perform a series of Star Wars-related songs to the tune of random scores from composer John Williams. Oh joy. (PS: Tim is the lower right hand corner, and you can see more of his awesome stuff at <mistertimdotcom.com>.

And finally, we have something funny from the thing that's been wasting my life in the best way possible...Portal 2, Valve's new sadistic lovechild sequel to perhaps the best video game ever. Thus far? Epic stuff. And this clip is rich with the game's infamous dark humor. Yay for ATLAS and P-Body.

Well, look at me, still talking when there's science to do. Peace out, my beloved readers. It's good to be home.

This concludes the posting of The Mindless Ramblings of the Nerd for 25 April 2010. I hope to see you later this week for another exciting installment!

24 April 2011

Tomorrow, the Nerd returns from his hiatus.

Readers of this blog, it has been virtually an eternity since the Nerd has shared the events of his life with you here, but this is about to change. The Nerd will be returning tomorrow with (kind-of sort-of) daily posts and the special weekly events you once knew and loved.

A lot has changed in the Nerd's life, and he is ecstatic to provide a full recount of the past 2 months and 13 days that he has not posted on this blog. Also, he wishes his Christian reader a very happy Zombie Jesus Day.

Tomorrow, the Nerd is coming home to The Mindless Ramblings. See you at the aftermath.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

"One day I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine." ~The First Doctor (William Hartnell)

This concludes the posting of The Mindless Ramblings of the Nerd for Sunday, 24 April 2011. The Nerd hopes to see you tomorrow for the first exciting installment in a VERY long time.
