29 January 2011

The Nerd is among nerds.

Well.

Today was kind of really sweet.

I woke up at 5 AM, got to Copper Mountain, and I skied like there was no tomorrow. For any folks familiar with Copper, the Spaulding Bowl was godly today. Like, heavenly multitudes, winged seraphs, "Hallelujah, I am saved" godly. And I continued to ski until my legs were about the consistency of gelatin. When I returned home at around 5, I called up my buddy Adam and his brother Austin and we all went out to dinner at Red Robin. After some deliberation as to what we should do after dinner, we drove down to Twist and Shout Records downtown. We browsed around in the monstrous shop for about an hour, then proceeded to return to my apartment, where we are now.

WARNING: (Very brief) Romance Paragraph ahead. You have been warned.

There's not a great deal to report. She's still on my mind a lot. Yet I haven't spoken to her recently, and I'm still under the assumption that she's probably uninterested. Ah well. Perhaps it's time to just let her go, unfortunately.

So, it's Saturday, and thus it is...

FILM RECOMMENDATION SATURDAY! (courtesy of the film connoisseur that is yours truly)

Tonight, as I write this, I am watching one of my all-time favorite B-movies of recent times; a little number starring the beloved Bruce Campbell (aka Ash Williams aka My Favorite Underrated Actor of the Entirety of the History of Cinema) as rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley entitled Bubba Ho-Tep. It's the story of Elvis, who hasn't died but is instead in an East Texas retirement home while an imposter is in the grave, who teams up with John F. Kennedy, (whose wounded brain was recovered, his body restored and his skin dyed black to disguise himself,) to defeat an evil Egyptian mummy dressed like a cowboy. Now, if this sounds like an awful concept to you, it's because it is. But to the surprise of every person I've ever shown it to, Bubba Ho-Tep has determined that it's actually insanely well-performed. It's a really fantastic film, and honestly, if you love Bruce Campbell as much as I do and you HAVEN'T seen this film, then shame on you. Seriously, go check it out. It may be a kind of sort of bad film, but goddamn if is isn't entertaining.

So, it's been a short post, but what're you gonna do? I have some Bruce Campbell to watch. Peace out.

This concludes the posting of The Mindless Ramblings of the Nerd for 29 January 2011. I hope to see you tomorrow for another exciting installment!
